Fun fact, I watched Sailor Moon for the last five minutes of each episode before Zoids came on. I pretty much never watched it otherwise.

Re: Kony abducts kids, everyone is outraged. America kills kids, nobody says a damn thing.

Oh no everybody Americans are finally being shown horrible things happening around the world and are getting a tiny glimpse of being world-conscious!  THIS IS TRULY DISPICABLE.

Protip #1: it’s called a Red Herring Fallacy.  This video doesn’t explain quite as deeply as my philosophy textbooks all the intricacies of it, but the basic idea is the same: you’re trying to “throw us off the trail” by dragging a completely irrelevant issue, the death of children in America, across the “path”.  From a purely rational standpoint, you have failed in engaging in an argument against providing support to capture Kony because all you have done is vaguely state the existence of a seemingly similar situation with the inference that anyone who wants to stop Kony because they have been made aware of it should be ashamed because they don’t know about the deaths of American children.

Protip #2: If you are going to bring up another situation, my suggestion would be to bring actual knowledge and awareness.  Saying “man how dare you not know about this thing that no one talks about” is a completely pointless and simply demeaning statement to make.  If you actually have context of the situation the children you are referring to, then by all means, educate us so that we may take action there, as well.  The Kony movement proves that people are in fact willing to act if they are given the knowledge and options available to them.  Take advantage of the situation.  People are more conscious at this very moment, and if it’s something you believe needs attention, then please, tell us so that we can help.

Protip #3: Sarcasm and passive-aggressiveness is a distracting waste of time.  Instead of making people feel like scumbags, which will guarantee that people will pretty much not listen to anything you have to say, be a teacher.  That’s what’s made the Kony video so quick to spread: it wasn’t lecturing us on how we’re being ignorant of the situation or putting blame on us for not knowing anything about this.  It treated its viewers respectfully, not with “how dare you not know this”, but with “here is what you should know, and here is how you can help”.  It’s not AMERICA’S NEEDS VS. UGANDA’S NEEDS, this is an act of basic human decency.
